IT in our activity

Information technology (IT) plays a very important role in today's world, and we are not an exception. IT allows an easy and effective communication with both the public and volunteer groups, who sometimes work remotely and therefore it is essential for us to maintain our website. It helps to convey our message to the public easier and serves as a tool to show our achievements and most importantly – find new homes for our animals.

A continuous flow of homeless animals also requires a fast and convenient information storage, so that work with documents is time-efficient, and the necessary information is easily accessible at any time. This information must also be available for people looking to adopt an animal.

Achievements:

  • Our web site http://sos-gyvunai.lt was created which enabled effective communication between volunteers and different work groups. Its main advantages are (i) a specialized animal to animal bulletin board with an option to search by certain criteria, and (ii) social networking functionality - blogs, forums, photo albums, volunteer groups, interviews and correspondence with members of our site.
  • In 2009 an animal shelters computer management system was installed, in which all data about our animals and their new owners is stored.
  • In 2009 we developed a distance learning course and a test to our volunteers.
  • Since 2009 anyone interested can subscribe to a weekly newsletter that can be delivered via email.
  • In 2011 a Russian version of the site was launched.
  • In 2012 “SOS Animals” opened an on-line donation store. All proceeds go toward the funding of our shelter.
  • In 2012 the English and Polish versions of the site were launched.
